Before describing Lil’ Joe to you, I want to refer you to my Testimonials Page on my website where you will see very few horses that I have sold that were young.  One of them was only 20 months when sold to Jennifer Redding, who works in the Attorney General’s Office of Ky., – Consumer Protection Office, whose two little girls at that time were only 2 and 4.  There are about five other two yr. old’s that I recommended and sold to families.  They have all been very happy with each horse.    I take doing this to heart.  I would never recommend any horse to a family with children, or anyone – if I didn’t feel in my heart that my description was as honest and correct as possibly can be.   I am even more cautious when recommending young horses.  I have to know them…..and I have to personally know the family that owns them.   There are exceptions to every rule.  Just like mares.  A mare with marish behavior can make one’s life miserable.  But there are beautiful mares that have behavior and temperaments just like geldings.  And they make wonderful family horses.   Lil’ Joe is three years old, and he is definitely one of those……. “an exception to the rule”.

Lil’ Joe is a beautiful black tobiano, 3 yr. old, that now stands 13.3.   According to the measurements that give how tall a young horse will be, he will grow to 14 hands…..maximum 14.1, if that.   The family that raised him said that from the time he was born, he had that natural laid back, sweet, calm disposition, and he has continued to be that way.   Lil’ Joe is very much like Zoe, the mare we have for sale on our website.   He is VERY quiet, calm with the most still-like movements with all things!!!!  Absolutely amazing.   He stands in the cross ties so very patient.  Very still,…..very calm, unconcerned.   He has been consistently trail ridden in the hills of Ky., with creeks, wildlife, and also on roads with traffic, for the past year.   Since being here, we live on a 4-lane highway – very heavy traffic – and, we have taken him out on a long trail ride just trying to find out what will upset him or make him spook.   He has been amazing because he pays no attention to anything we have tried!  This includes barking dogs nipping at his heels (thanks to our Jack Russell) —-heavy traffic on our 4-lane highway with semi’s – air brakes – sirens – gravel/log trucks – and people who blow their horns when they see us riding.   He doesn’t even perk his ears.   He runs great with other horses.   When he first came here, he would allow the others to run him off from his feed.   About two days later, he figured it out……and now….he knows his spot and if they start to walk toward him, he gives them that look.   He doesn’t ask for trouble or make trouble,….but he does take up for himself when it comes to his feed.

He always stands and waits when mounted.   He will stand and wait upon command when out riding anytime.    Lil’ Joe will ride out alone,…..away from the stables and other horses without hesitation.    He will ride off on a trail away from the group anytime.   He will ride front, middle or back in a group, and you do not have to worry about him trying to go faster or taking off with a child.   He is a horse that you sometimes have to nudge in the side with your heel to get him to go, and then to go faster.   He is wonderful with children.  He lowers his head to their level for them to pet and love on him.    He is like a big puppy dog.  That is what our rider, Amber calls him……her puppy dog.   Lil’ Joe is “in your face” when he sees you at the gate or fence.   We were nailing a plank on the fence and his nose was right there where the hammer was….not afraid of anything, wanting to know what we were doing.   He is so nosy!!  Just into everything! The bag of nails on the golf cart…….his nose right there where we were hammering the nail…….He loves to sniff your hair,…..snuggle in your neck,……and lays his head against your tummy.   He is a wonderful little horse for a family with small children.  Lil’ Joe rides bareback and double.  You can lead small children on him…..he walks around with his head lowered……slow motion.   He will be wonderful for beginner riders,…timid riders, and Special Needs, because his movements are in slow motion no matter what you are doing.

He has a really smooth gait and is a great trail horse with crossing creeks, logs, ditches,…..just goes right on!   Like all of the younger horses I have sold to families, he is just an amazing little horse with so much love to give!!!   Again, you are welcome to contact my testimonials on the young horses I have recommended and sold to families, as well as all of my testimonials!!!!!   I have a family in Chipley, Florida, – Dennis and Linda, – I sent them their 8th horse purchased by phone, did not come in person this past December, 2012.    Our goal here at Forest Ridge Farm is that when all is said and done, you will be happy to give us a reference or write us a testimonial.   I don’t want any problems….so you will be told about every negative behavior no matter how small “before” you purchase one of our horses, and that includes photos of scars, cuts, etc.   And, we are here for you after the sale…..years to come!  Just ask our many families that we have worked with over the years!   Photos are below and I will be pasting video links after getting them downloaded on youtube.  “thank you” – Blessings to all of you, Connie
